There is a Reserve Day scheduled for the RCB vs RR Eliminator in IPL 2024. However, what happens if the match cannot take place?
Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals will be tested as they try to reverse their fortunes in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator against an in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wednesday. The Royals seemed on track for a top spot during the league stage but a series of losses, including a washout in the last match against KKR, saw Sanju Samson’s team finish in third place behind Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In contrast, RCB has made a remarkable comeback from near elimination. Despite losing seven of their first eight games this season, Faf du Plessis’s squad went on a fantastic winning streak and recently defeated defending champions Chennai Super Kings to secure a spot in the playoffs.
If Rajasthan Royals are coming off four losses and a rained-off game, RCB have notched up six consecutive wins to sound a warning to their rivals that they mean business in the playoffs. But, could rain spoil RCB’s stunning run in the league and prevent them from reaching the Qualifier 2?
In case the RCB vs RR Eliminator gets washed out, the IPL 2024 Match Playing Conditions state that an additional 120 minutes or two hours are allotted to complete the match due to rain delay. This rule applied to league-stage matches as well. However, for playoffs, there is also the option of a Reserve Day, ensuring an extra day is set aside for the Eliminator between RCB and RR.
For the playoff matches, there are reserve days available to complete any match that is not finished. This season, unlike previous IPL editions, includes a Reserve Day for all playoff games, including the final on May 26. It’s important to note that if a match is continued on a Reserve Day, it will start anew. However, if no play is possible even with the Reserve Day, and the organizers cannot conduct a Super Over, the team that finished higher in the league stage will advance. Therefore, Rajasthan Royals would benefit if the Eliminator is completely rained out.
