NEW DELHI: A day after Shiv Sena leader Tanaji Sawant‘s “vomit” remark against him, Maharashtra deputy chief minister and NCP president Ajit Pawar attempted to downplay the controversy on Saturday. Pawar said that he focuses on working for the people and pays no attention to criticism.
Sawant, the state health minister, said recently in Dharashiv that he sits next to his NCP colleagues during Maharashtra cabinet meetings, but feels like vomiting afterwards.”Even if we sit next to each other in the cabinet, I feel like vomiting after coming out,” Sawant said.
The BJP, Shiv Sena led by chief minister Eknath Shinde, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP are all part of the state’s ruling Mahayuti coalition.
Sawant’s remarks exposed the divisions within the ruling alliance, with NCP responding by saying it would be better to leave the coalition than to endure such statements. When questioned about Sawant’s comments at the Nagpur airport, Ajit Pawar said to reporters, “I had decided at the start of the ‘Jansanman Yatra’ that I don’t want to criticise or comment against anyone. It doesn’t matter to me if someone speaks against me. I believe in my work and work for the people.”
Regarding seat-sharing discussions within the Mahayuti alliance for the Maharashtra assembly elections, Pawar said, “The leaders of all three ruling allies will hold a press conference and inform the media about the seats.”
