NEW DELHI: Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed out on the men’s javelin throw title, finishing second by just 0.01 meters in a nail-biting finale at the Diamond League Final in Brussels on Saturday.
The competition was intense, with Anderson Peters of Grenada securing first place with a huge throw of 87.87 meters.
Chopra, who had been in the running throughout, achieved a best throw of 86.86 meters on his third attempt but fell just short of Peters’s mark.

Julian Weber, who threw 85.97 meters in the first round, finished in third despite an underwhelming throw of 77.75 in his final attempt.
The event saw dramatic shifts and tight margins from the start. Chopra’s initial throws included an 86.82-meter effort, placing him second behind Peters.
As the rounds progressed, Peters maintained his lead with a throw of 87.87 meters, while Chopra had to settle for 82.04 meters and 83.30 meters in the fourth and fifth rounds.

Despite improvements on those in the final throw, Chopra’s attempt of 86.46 meters wasn’t enough to overcome Peters.
The fifth round saw Weber foul as Chopra improved with a throw of 83.30 meters. Peters, who had been leading the line from the very first round, launched a throw of 84.11 meters.
In the final round, Weber’s 77.75 meters and Chopra’s 86.46 meters were insufficient to change the standings, as Peters clinched the title with a final throw of 87.86 meters.
Despite his impressive performance, Chopra’s season ended with him just a fraction away from the top spot, marking a close and hard-fought conclusion to the Diamond League season.
