Bangladesh’s effective bowling session left Pakistan in a vulnerable state on the fifth day of the first Test in Rawalpindi. Bangladesh consistently took wickets, preventing any significant partnerships, as Pakistan found themselves at 108 for 6 by lunchtime, still 9 runs behind.

The day started positively for Bangladesh as Hasan Mahmud caught the outside edge of Shan Masood’s bat when the Pakistan captain attempted to hit a short delivery. Initially, the on-field umpire did not give it out, but the decision was overturned after Bangladesh’s DRS appeal showed a spike on UltraEdge. Babar Azam was close to being dismissed for a pair when he edged a delivery from Shoriful Islam, but Litton Das failed to catch it. Despite a shaky beginning, Babar settled in and confidently executed a cut shot off Mahmud for his first boundary.

Babar also managed a four off Shakib Al Hasan but he wasn’t in control of the shot as he got a thick edge attempting a cut. Abdullah Shafique, at the other end, was employing a cautious approach and was troubled a couple of times by Nahid Rana in his first over. Shafique got his first four of the day when he tried to duck under a short ball from Rana and the ball clipped the back of the bat and went over the ‘keeper.

Bangladesh won the match by 10 wickets, which means they chased down the required target without losing any wickets in their second innings. Here’s how it happened:

  1. First Innings:
    • Pakistan batted first and scored 448 runs for the loss of 6 wickets (declared).
    • Bangladesh responded with a massive total of 565 runs in their first innings, thanks to Mushfiqur Rahim’s brilliant knock of 191.
  2. Second Innings:
    • Pakistan’s second innings was a struggle. They managed only 108 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.
    • Bangladesh needed just 9 runs to win in their second innings.
  3. Bangladesh’s Chase:
    • Openers from Bangladesh (likely Shadman Islam and Liton Das) scored the required 9 runs without losing any wickets.
    • Since they didn’t lose a single wicket while chasing, Bangladesh won by 10 wickets.
